Widely recognized for decades as one of the top agents in South Santa Clara County, John Telfer has built an exclusive niche in raw land development and pre-development properties. Whether navigating RDCS programs such as Measure C and Measure S in the past, or addressing numerous current state housing laws such as SB 330, or guiding prominent commercial projects, John offers clients the expertise and professionalism gained from over 49 years in real estate.
Born and raised in Morgan Hill, John is a fourth-generation resident who follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, John Telfer—the longest-serving mayor in Morgan Hill history—and his parents, Ernest and Ethel Telfer, who operated Telfer’s Market from the 1930s through the 1960s. Ernest and Ethel later founded South County Realty and introduced John to the real estate field. He further sharpened his skills by earning a business degree with a concentration in real estate from San Jose State University.

What sets John apart is his in-depth knowledge of the entitlement process for projects large and small, paired with his proven ability to market unique properties. Known for his professionalism and dedication, he has earned the loyalty of many repeat and referral clients who value his results-driven, personalized approach.
In addition to his real estate work, John has been active in the community, serving on city-led economic development committees and land use and recreation advisory boards. He also coached Live Oak High School’s boys’ volleyball program from 1999 to 2004, leading three undefeated league championship teams.
Today, as a Real Estate Consultant, John continues to provide valuable insight and strategic guidance to clients, drawing on his extensive experience to help them navigate complex projects.

Outside of work, John is an avid boater, efoiler, and beach volleyball player, and enjoys traveling and sharing these activities with his wife, Diane, and sons, Matt and Erik, as well as his daughter-in-law, Megan, and granddaughters, Kate and Allie.
